A chapter in Demographic Transitions, Health, and Well-Being, 2025, pp 3-14 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This work aims to study the characteristics of the aging process in the province of Santa Elena. It is carried out with a mixed approach, with the support of quantitative data from official statistics and information obtained from the LABEI 2024 Aging Survey, as well as the content and narratives provided in the focus groups that are carried out in the experience. The study is conceived as a space for generating knowledge while building in a participatory way an Active Aging Program (PEA), for Santa Elena, where older people are understood as subjects of research and social transformation. The study has allowed to diagnose the characteristics of the aging process and outline lines of action that give an early response to the problems that affect older people.
