Abstract: Abstract Retirement represents a significant change in individuals’ lives, which is why it can be prepared through an educational/training process. However, the scientific literature points to a lack of practices in this preparation. Based on a qualitative methodology, conducted through interviews with workers, retirees or pre-retirees, perceptions about retirement and the factors influencing the development of retirement planning programs were captured. It was found two meanings attributed to retirement and three factors that restrict the development of retirement preparation in organizations. Considering that none of the interviewees took part in retirement planning processes, this research presents guidelines that may help implement this practice in organizations.
