A chapter in Demographic Transitions, Health, and Well-Being, 2025, pp 293-307 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In Fusagasugá, a joint study by SENA and the Mayor’s Office evaluated healthcare for patients with physical and motor disabilities. Only 57% of these patients have access to pharmacological treatments, which are often ineffective and impact their social and emotional well-being. The study also highlighted the vulnerability of the elderly, who lack adequate medical support. Following the pandemic, there has been an observed increase in stress and depression, affecting communication and interpersonal relationships, with repercussions in the workplace. The study concludes that it is essential to provide tools for managing stress and anxiety, and it proposes equine therapy as an alternative treatment for the elderly and people with disabilities, involving all sectors to promote inclusion and social innovation.
