Abstract: Abstract As individuals grow older, it becomes increasingly important that they stay informed, active, and as independent as possible. Technology has the capacity to enhance the health and well-being of the elderly by making communication easier, providing access to mental and physical health care, engaging elderly people mentally and socially, and helping them perform everyday tasks. It can also increase the safety, comfort, and sense of security of many aspects of life by utilizing tracking and monitoring devices to offer the assurance of knowing that help is close by in the event of an emergency. Currently, the main benefit of the use of technology by the elderly is to help maintain their quality of life and autonomy. However, due to a growing elderly population and because of the need to balance essential quality of care in a humanistic manner with cost-effective delivery of services, new technical tools for leisure, communication, monitoring, and serving individuals at home are called for. The aim of this paper is to investigate the scope and opportunity for technology to satisfy the needs and aspirations of the increasing elderly population.
