A chapter in Health Technologies and Demographic Challenges, 2025, pp 45-54 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The paper focuses on the development of serious games tailored for seniors using a user-centered design approach. It emphasizes the importance of user-centered design in creating engaging and effective educational games that provide cognitive health and learning needs of older adults. Design Thinking framework was adopted to guide the development process, which involved all interested parties and includes stages of empathizing and defining, ideating, prototyping, and testing. The methodology involved qualitative research through interviews and surveys with seniors and psychologists to gather insights into their needs and preferences. These insights were translated into technical requirements and used to create low and high-fidelity prototypes. Usability tests were conducted to refine the game design based on feedback from the target users. The study highlights the challenges and potential improvements in integrating user-centered design methods into serious game design, aiming to enhance both educational and entertainment value for seniors. The conclusion is that while progress has been made, there is still significant potential for improvement in the field.
