A chapter in Impact and Legacy of the European Capitals of Culture (ECoC) Program, 2026, pp 353-363 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The designation of Timișoara as the European Capital of Culture 2021 represents a significant milestone in the city’s recent history. Since 2000, Timișoara has approached cultural governance in an integrated and collaborative manner, actively involving all relevant stakeholders in the development and execution of local cultural strategies. This paper is based on sociological research conducted between March and May 2024, funded by the Project Center of Timișoara Municipality as part of the Plan for Evaluating the Results and Impact of the Timișoara’s 2023 Program. The TmECC2023 program had a direct and positive impact on local and regional cultural life. With a rich agenda of large-scale events the city experienced a continuous cultural vibrancy throughout almost all of 2023. Cultural consumption indicators clearly reflect this significant increase in participation, alongside a predominantly positive assessment of both the cultural offer and the overall program.
