A chapter in Strategic Innovative Marketing and Tourism, 2026, pp 47-54 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The aim of this chapter is to investigate the conditions for the development of border sustainable coastal tourism and the opinion of tourists/visitors on related issues. As a case study, the area of “Nestos Delta, Keramoti Lagoon and Thasopoula Island” in the Region of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace in Greece is chosen. In order to answer the main questions of the paper and to investigate the conditions and possibilities for the development of border coastal tourism in the region, a survey was carried out aimed at tourists/visitors in the region. For the needs of the research, a questionnaire was created composed of twenty-two (22) closed-type structured response questions, which was anonymous and distributed to a convenience sample of 191 people. The survey was carried out in the months of July, August, and September 2024. A key conclusion is that the research area is a protected area, which enables the development of border sustainable tourism, while at the same time, visitors are interested in environmental issues and wish to visit the area again.
