A chapter in Embracing Technological Agility in Accounting and Business – Vol. 2, 2026, pp 233-248 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The chapter examines how employee engagement contributes to enhanced organisational performance in public sector institutions. Drawing on a systematic review of 57 empirical studies published between 2010 and 2025, it synthesises evidence demonstrating that engagement is a strategic enabler of productivity, service quality, and institutional effectiveness. The analysis identifies key drivers of engagement, including supportive leadership, conducive work environments, and robust recognition systems. Findings reveal that engaged employees display stronger motivation, commitment, and performance, which collectively foster operational efficiency and stakeholder satisfaction. The study further proposes a practical framework for strengthening engagement as a pathway to sustainable organisational success. Overall, the chapter contributes to scholarly discourse and policy development by offering evidence-based insigths that can guide interventions aimed at improving public sector performance. It argues that sustainable investment in leadership development, well-being initiatives, and recognition programmes is essential for cultivating a resilient and high-performing workforce.
