Abstract:
Abstract The intersection of brand protection and sustainability is critical in addressing counterfeiting and environmental challenges in the Southern African automotive aftermarket. This study evaluated the effectiveness of current brand protection strategies and explored the integration of sustainable practices. Using qualitative methods, including interviews with industry stakeholders and case studies, the research highlights gaps in traditional approaches and identifies innovative strategies like Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tracking, blockchain, and eco-friendly materials. Findings reveal that a hybrid model combining legal rigor, technological innovation, and sustainability-focused solutions enhances brand resilience and aligns with global environmental standards. The study contributes to the discourse on brand protection and sustainability by analyzing the effectiveness of current anticounterfeiting strategies in the Southern African automotive aftermarket while integrating sustainability into brand protection frameworks. It provides practical insights for businesses, policymakers, and researchers, emphasizing the necessity of sustainability-driven enforcement measures to counteract counterfeiting while aligning with global environmental goals.
