Abstract:
Abstract Digital social innovation (DSI) and tourism are vital research domains that intersect technology, social transformation, and entrepreneurship. Yet, limited studies have holistically mapped its knowledge structure while anticipating its future scholarly trajectory. This study aims to map and analyze trends and model projections of global research development in the tourism context in DSI. Its key contribution lies in integrating bibliometric, contextual review, and modeling approaches, bridging the gap in prior studies that have predominantly quantified historical publication output without projecting future dynamics. Using data from Scopus spanning 2014–2024, this research analyzes 130 documents from 53 countries, employing R Biblioshiny for bibliometric trend mapping and Python for projection modeling. The bibliometric analysis reveals an expanding and increasingly collaborative landscape and a three-phase publication growth pattern. Trend topics such as digital innovation, digital social innovation, social innovation, digital technologies, and innovation also appear categorized as motor themes of the thematic map. Polynomial regression projection publication growth with strong model accuracy (mean absolute error (MAE) = 0.99; mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) = 7.08%). This study offers a dual lens for understanding DSIs in the tourism context, past and future, providing actionable insight for scholars, tourism practitioners, entrepreneurs, and policymakers.
