A chapter in Technology Management for Intelligent, Open and Responsible Organizations and Ecosystems, 2026, pp 343-351 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract To foster supply chain networks with the use of advanced technology in West Africa, this systematic review aims to enhance the current understanding of supply chain (SC) 4.0 practices in Ghana by examining emerging trends in the literature. This study aims to review the literature surrounding the practice of Supply Chain 4.0 in Ghana and establish the significance of various elements such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Blockchain, Internet of Things, and Advanced Robotics. A systematic literature search of key databases was conducted to identify articles investigating the practice of Supply Chain 4.0 in Ghana and the significant impact of supply chain 4.0 elements. Seven studies were included in the review. Three papers detailed the use of Artificial Intelligence to supply medical equipment and vaccines. There were two prospective studies on the use of the Internet of Things for sustainable logistics management and the adoption of supply chain technological tools, fostering supply chain activities. The results further highlighted a future of SC 4.0 elements, which are focal areas of understanding SC 4.0 practices, performance, and critical success factors in Ghanaian industries. This study provides practical insights for industry practitioners to understand SC 4.0 deployment, design, and implementation, as well as suggestions for future research directions for SC 4.0 practice in Ghana.
