A chapter in Technology Management for Intelligent, Open and Responsible Organizations and Ecosystems, 2026, pp 228-234 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The evolution of reality systems represented in Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), and Extended Reality (XR) has been widely used in various industrial and business systems. Reality systems have a significant influence in driving Operational Excellence (OE) success in different fields. According to Gartner Hype Cycle for emerging technologies in 2024 [1], the map of reality systems is changing dramatically. The diffusion of applying augmented and extended reality systems is commonly deployed rather than using virtual and mixed reality systems. This is due to the nature, availability, applicability, and cost of expenses. This paper aims to illustrate the technical differences between different reality systems and allocate properly where and when to use the optimal reality system at various industrial and business levels to seek potential value-added aspects toward industrial and business operational excellence success.
