Navigating the Ethics of AI in Education: Insights From a Bibliometric Study and Systematic Literature Review

Abstract: Abstract Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing academic management and the teaching-learning process, but it also raises ethical challenges that demand the attention of all educational stakeholders. This study aimed to analyze the academic literature related to ethics in the use of artificial intelligence in education, utilizing the Web of Science and Scopus databases, focusing on trends from 2017 to 2023. Through bibliometric analysis, 1341 articles were identified, with 91 reviewed in depth. This analysis was complemented with a systematic literature review using topic modeling to group 21 documents into three major themes. Both techniques allowed the identification of concerns and ethical principles regarding the use of artificial intelligence in education. The problems revolve around transparency, data management, and plagiarism, among others. Additionally, 14 principles were identified that address these issues. This study contributes to the research on the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence in education by mapping related publications on the topic.
