Abstract:
Abstract The literature of intercultural management in the Vietnamese context has usually emphasised Confucianism, the Chinese cultural influence, and socialism to explain the differences between Vietnamese and Western management practices. However, nowadays, Vietnamese anthropological researchers tend to consider the singularity of Vietnamese culture as a wet-rice village culture, due to Vietnam’s long history, which has been shaped by the structure of wet-rice villages. This wet-rice village culture is the foundation that forms Vietnamese social behaviour, values, and collective organization. This article analyses this special element of Vietnamese culture, and integrates it into the interpretation of phenomena observed at international firms operating in Vietnam.
