Chapter Chapter 4 in New Perspectives in Economics and Management, Vol 1, 2026, pp 51-68 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Enhancing innovation capability within Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Ecuador, including universities and technical institutes, is increasingly vital in today’s landscape, driven by rapid technological evolution and shifting market demands. This attribute refers to HEIs’ ability to conceive and implement new ideas, methods, processes, and technologies that foster substantial improvements in education, research, and community service. Central to this innovative capacity is organizational culture, anchored in institutional goals and mission fulfillment, underpinned by diverse elements. Effectiveness hinges on a process encompassing environmental needs identification, establishing a clear vision, conducting situational diagnostics, and proposing concrete ideas to drive necessary change. Moreover, key factors enhancing the innovation capacity of universities and technical institutes in Ecuador include infrastructure and resource availability, interdisciplinary collaboration, partnerships with industry and community, professional development, and robust support for research and development. Knowledge management’s influence is pivotal, optimizing internal operations, fostering innovation through knowledge transfer, cultivating shared learning among faculty, researchers, and students, and influencing strategic decision-making for enhanced organizational quality and value. In an era increasingly immersed in large-scale technological processes, artificial intelligence emerges as a valuable tool, including academic performance prediction. In summary, the innovation capability of HEIs in Ecuador, including both universities and technical institutes, stands as a cornerstone of their long-term success, enabling adaptation to an ever-changing environment and fulfilling their mission to generate knowledge and contribute to social and economic development.
