Abstract:
Abstract In this paper we attempt to present the early stage of Hungarian banking supervision’s history, with respect to the proposals of the organisation of different supervisory bodies from the second half of the nineteenth century until the establishment of the Financial Institution’s Centre (1916), inclusive. We present the opinions connected with the shaping of banking supervision, the related arguments for and against, the proposals and initiatives for the establishment of specific supervisory bodies and operational frameworks thereof.
