Abstract: Abstract This paper focuses on an analysis of debtors who applied for debt relief between the January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2013, in the Czech regions of Královéhradecký and Pardubický. Debt relief, or personal bankruptcy, is a relatively new way of declaring bankruptcy by debtors unable to repay their debt, in action only since 2008. The main focus lies in the demographic structure—age, gender, monthly income—of debtors and their absolute extent of debt. The two regions were chosen as comparative studies due to their similarity in demographics and geography. Thus, deviations in the outcomes of the research on debtor structure would be unexpected and would validate further inquiry into this topic. However, the findings prove that the similarities of demographics among the debtors in the regions prevail. This paper constitutes only a narrow section of broader research, which aims to cover the demographic structure of debtors in all of the Czech Republic.
