Abstract: Abstract The RoI of the human capital—the most important asset of organizations—depends primarily on the life quality of the individuals, represented by their performance levels, motivation towards work, and work-life balance. The advancement of fast and competitive business world accompanies increased working hours, which stress the employees further. To remain competitive, companies try to maximize the productivity of employees through recreational and wellness programs, which require high initial investment and significant costs to maintain. Thus, it is essential to assess their adequacy, effectiveness, and their actual role in the life quality of employees. Extant literature focuses on positive effects of the recreational programs, but the actual benefits accrued to the final customers (employees) remain doubtful. Through this study on Indian IT industry, the author assesses the effectiveness of these programs using four indicators. The results expose the inadequacies, emphasizing the need for flexible approach in designing such programs.
