Abstract:
Abstract Climate change is a significant global issue with a profound impact on various human activities. The main objectives of this research endeavor revolve around scrutinizing and assessing the effects of climate change using meteorological data encompassing average temperature, rainfall index, and humidity index, along with financial indicators such as return on assets (ROA). This study draws on secondary data from companies within the agricultural, food, and beverage business enterprises listed on Thailand's Stock, focusing on financial performance metrics, specifically ROA, as disclosed in the financial statements (form 56-1) of around 31 companies over a decade, spanning from 2012 to 2022. The analytical approach involved the application of statistical regression methods. The findings suggest that climate change significantly and adversely impacts financial performance, with average temperature demonstrating a negative association with return on equity in conjunction with the humidity index. Conversely, a positive correlation is observed between capital structure and an uptick in return on equity. It is imperative for various stakeholders to recognize the implications of climate change. Furthermore, it is essential to emphasize that climate change profoundly affects the overall prosperity of a nation. Therefore, government authorities must acknowledge the precarious nature of meteorological patterns, which can lead to missed opportunities. Therefore, there is an urgent need for systematic strategic planning and monitoring to address the challenges posed by climate change.
