Abstract: Abstract Human and environmental processes in the maritime environment are becoming increasingly complex due to the intensification of human activity and its impact on the natural environment. Adequately representing these complex and changing processes requires novel agile methods of data collection and interpretation. Data acquisition and representation methods need to adapt to specific missions by identifying mission-specific information while operating under resource constraints with the goal to provide meaningful representations of requested information to human users for effective decision support. This chapter reviews technological advancements in intelligent information acquisition and representation to aid human users and organisations make sense of the complex maritime environment.
