A chapter in Design Thinking for Software Engineering, 2022, pp 61-72 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Design Thinking is the accumulation of best practices in design. This contribution discusses the potentials and limitations of Design Thinking for innovative software-intensive products and services based on the author’s personal experiences. The main conclusion from this consideration is that the limitations of design thinking in software engineering result from the fact that essential characteristics of software and its development process are not considered in design thinking. In order to overcome these limitations, digital design as a new profession following the example of industrial design is presented as the next step in the evolution of design competence for software.
