Chapter Chapter 4 in Enterprise Software Sourcing Performance, 2016, pp 79-96 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This study aims to contribute to research in the field of software alignment and software sourcing. A discussion of previous literature led to the development of a preliminary research model. An exploratory field study (Guillemette and Paré 2012) has been conducted in order to test a priori postulated propositions and to extend the research model. The related ontological and epistemological stance of this study is discussed in Sect. 4.1. Section 4.2 continues with a conceptualization of fit. Previous studies differentiated between six distinct perspectives of fit (Chan and Reich 2007; Venkatraman 1989). These perspectives are discussed and dynamic fit as well as alignment clusters are positioned. Section 4.3 outlines the data collection and the data analysis approach. The sampling procedure is discussed and the coding and interpretation of qualitative field study data is introduced. In addition, the applied statistical tests for evaluating associations among concepts is presented. A summary on research design is given in Sect. 4.4.
