Abstract: Abstract The historic inconsistency of Olympic Legacies for both bid and host cities continues to drive research in the fields of sports economics, transportation management, and policy. Throughout modern Olympic history, inaccurate time frames, financial miscalculations, and inequitable initiatives have garnered international attention. In 2013, civil unrest in Brazil and Turkey further highlighted the tensions and strife that can surround the Olympics. Regardless, cities and countries continue to bid for the right to host mega-events. Rather than encouraging cities to refrain from bidding for the Games, this book encourages them to do so responsibly and strategically in pursuit of concrete outcomes. This chapter delivers actionable recommendations that draw from the case studies to outline a path for other cities to achieve their own positive transportation legacies. The chapter identifies opportunities for improving the value of the bid process and transportation benefits to bidders and hosts. The recommendations are organized by audience and empower all stakeholders to identify when and how to proactively and effectively engage in the bid process.
