Abstract: Abstract Purpose The purpose of this chapter is to explore the contribution of sport tourism to sustainable economic development in small island developing states (SIDS), based on the Barbados case. Design/Methodology/Approach An empirical approach was used to investigate the case study of the Barbados Sport tourism industry. The data collected were time series data that covered the years from 1998 to 2020. Model data for dependent and independent variables were acquired from the World Bank databank. Information regarding sporting events at the regional and international level was collected from Sporting Barbados magazine—an annual local publication. Key Findings The results indicated no measurable evidence that sport tourism and hosting non-domestic sporting events enhance economic growth in small developing nations, such as the case of Barbados. Nevertheless, the authors distinguished that positive gains require adequate planning and management in niche areas of these sporting events. Targeting key sporting events that can attract tourists and significant private investment was a significant deduction.
