Chapter Chapter 1 in Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation for Sustainability, 2022, pp 1-8 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Bangladesh's economic development has gradually improved over the last two decades, but there are regional disparities in its development. The Haor region is located in the northeastern part of the country, where the natural environment is unfavorable and socio-economic development is delayed. However, sustainable regional development is a dynamic process that involves multi-sectoral approach to the economic and social development of a region. Each region has its own unique characteristics of natural and human resources, level of technological development, institutional structure, values and ethics. Therefore, the main purpose of this research is to assess the role of entrepreneurship and social innovation for social and cultural changes; and farmers’ performance in disaster risk management at the community level towards sustainable regional development in a less favored haor region of Bangladesh. The study targets a rural haor area of Kishoreganj district of Bangladesh.
