Chapter Chapter 10 in Optimal Control of Switched Systems Arising in Fermentation Processes, 2014, pp 143-158 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter, we consider optimal control of multistage time-delay system arising in fed-batch fermentation. In the optimal control model, the feeding rate of glycerol as well as the terminal time is taken as the control function. By using a time-scaling transformation, we equivalently transcribe the optimal control problem with free terminal time into the one with fixed terminal time. A computational approach based on control parameterization method is developed to solve the transformed optimal control problem. Numerical results show the effectiveness of the developed approach.
