Abstract: Abstract This chapter gives a brief overview of some contemporary problems in mathematical population dynamics: population aging in demography; emerging diseases (AIDS, SARS, vector-borne diseases…) and vaccination policy in epidemiology; fishing policies in ecology; the dispersal of genetically modified organisms in population genetics. The specialized institutions working in France on the modelling of these problems are mentioned. Various aspects of research work are also emphasized.
