Abstract: Abstract I was raised in a very comfortable middle-class American home that took the big family vacation every summer. Except for once, we always drove. It may seem a bit strange that all of these years later I still vividly remember the time we flew from Cleveland, Ohio, to Charleston, South Carolina, to stay at a rented home on Edisto Beach. But for those of us old enough to remember, air travel used to be something that was reserved only for very special occasions or businesspeople. Flying anywhere was damn expensive and the old family truckster remained a far better option for most families.
