Fees and Expenses

Chapter Chapter 9 in INVEST LIKE AN INSTITUTION, 2013, pp 161-177 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Now that your asset allocation and investment structures have been set up to generate the best return/risk trade-off, and you have selected a lineup of investment managers and funds to help you generate the best outperformance possible, now it is time, as the Road Map to Financial Success graphic implies, to make sure that you are getting what you pay for. Fees and expenses are the only certainty in your investment portfolio—they will drive your returns and assets down. Although there are some expenses that are worth paying, especially if they can generate a higher rate of return, it is important that investors understand just how impactful even small differences in fees can be over the time span of a career and retirement.
