From Curiosity to Collaboration: Leveraging Technology to Improve Situational Awareness
Curt Pringle
Chapter Chapter 14 in Safeguarding Homeland Security, 2009, pp 159-176 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The city created a virtual operations center as opposed to an operations center where many agencies and organizations congregate to manage an emergency. This approach enables management by authorized users from any computer. It has a landing page where users can then access information ranging from building blueprints to traffic flow around the incident. Regional communities also participate in the virtual center. The system has worked well in the case of fires and in a test simulating a major disaster.
