Chapter Chapter 1 in A Guide to Simulation, 1987, pp 1-43 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Every user of this book should read the first six sections of this chapter: models (§1.1); verification and validation (§1.2); states, events, and clocks (§1.3); types of simulation, with some examples (§1.4); an introduction to random numbers (§1.5); and a perspective of experimental design and estimation (§1.6). These sections set the stage for the rest of the book. Subsections 1.4.2 (continuous simulation) and 1.4.3 (hybrid simulation) are not cited in subsequent chapters and can be skipped at first reading.
