Chapter 9 in Further Algebra and Applications, 2003, pp 343-370 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Skew fields arise quite naturally in the application of Schur’s lemma and elsewhere, but most of the known theory deals with the case of skew fields finite-dimensional over their centres (see Chapter 5). In the general case only isolated results are known, much of it depending on the coproduct construction (see Cohn (1995), Schofield (1985)). This lies outside our framework and we shall confine ourselves to presenting some of the highlights which do not require special prerequisites.
