Abstract: Abstract In this chapter we present preliminary notions and results on which this book is based; namely, the known properties of Fredholm (= Noether) operators in a Banach space (Section 1), and some results on the criteria of Fredholmness and index of singular integral operators (Section 2) and of convolution type (Section 3). Most of the results are known, some of them given here with slight modification or simplifications.
