Abstract: Abstract In many textbooks on statistics, tests are introduced by stating the null hypothesis H 0 and the complement as an alternative hypothesis, H 1. Often, the impression is given that the two alternatives are in some sense symmetric, and the decision to be made is to accept one of them. As shown in the preceding chapter, the above-described impression is wrong for the case of a significance test, which, therefore, has been called the exclusion procedure here.
