Abstract:
Abstract An error control protocol referred to as Alternating Data/Parity Protocol (ADPP) and a technique for implementing this protocol efficiently in software are described. ADPP is (1) significantly more robust in the presence of channel noise than most currently used protocols; (2) it is essentially overhead-free in the absence of transmission errors; (3) it greatly increases the effective data throughput of noisy channels and (4) it is amenable to efficient software implementation even on small computers, such as personal systems. ADPP is compatible with standard data link control protocols.
