On the Proportion above Sample Mean for Symmetric Stable Laws

Jayanta K. Ghosh

Chapter 4 in Statistical Theory and Applications, 1996, pp 37-41 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Let P n be the proportion of observations above the sample mean in a random sample from a distribution function F. We find the asymptotic distribution of a suitably centered and normed P n when F is symmetric stable or when F has infinite second moment but is in the domain of attraction of a normal distribution. A partial converse and extensions are also given.
