Chapter 10 in Multidimensional Similarity Structure Analysis, 1987, pp 155-171 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Internal and external unfolding are distinguished. In the latter, we first derive an SSA configuration of the choice objects from their proximity data, and then insert ideal points into this space. In the weighted unfolding model, not only an ideal point, but also dimensional weights are chosen freely for each individual. A closer investigation reveals, however, that this model needs to be constrained to make sense. Finally, a metric unfolding variant which builds on Luce’s choice model is introduced.
