Chapter 12 in Multidimensional Similarity Structure Analysis, 1987, pp 189-201 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract It is shown that, for a given set of data, there can be very different SSA representations with almost equal stress values. This leads us to require from the start that the SSA configuration must satisfy additional properties derived from substantive considerations about the data at hand. I.e., the set of potential solutions is restricted to those which are strictly compatible with a theoretical expectation. A procedure which allows us to impose such external constraints is described and illustrated.
