A chapter in Emmy Noether in Bryn Mawr, 1983, pp 21-40 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This paper is essentially an expanded version of [Sw] and gives a more detailed discussion of some of the topics mentioned there. It is intended to serve as an introduction to recent work related to Noether’s problem. To avoid too much overlap with [Sw] a number of historical remarks, comments, and other topics have been omitted here.
