Andrei Andreevich Markov

A chapter in Statisticians of the Centuries, 2001, pp 243-247 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Markov, with Liapunov a disciple of Chebyshev, gave rigorous proofs of the Central Limit Theorem. Through his work on Markov chains, the concept of Markovian dependence pervades modern theory and application of random processes. His textbook influenced the development of probability and statistics internationally.
