Abstract:
Abstract Rule-based methods have been investigated for process control applications since mid-1970’s where the emphasis has been on the use of fuzzy logic for implementing the linguistic control rules. The method is now being used commercially for the control of cement kilns, using linguistic rules of the type shown in Fig. 1. The rules are a collection of situation-action pairs expressed as IF… THEN… statements and implemented as logical implications. Thus a set of rules, R, is given as $$\begin{array}{*{20}{c}} {R = \{ {{R}^{1}},{{R}^{2}},...,{{R}^{n}}\} } \\ { = \{ {{s}^{1}} \to {{a}^{1}},{{s}^{2}} \to {{a}^{2}},...,{{s}^{n}} \to {{a}^{n}}\} .} \\ \end{array}$$
