Chapter Chapter 1 in Exercises in Group Theory, 1972, pp 1-19 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Let us define a property such that for each object which can be considered in any mathematical theory, one can determine, at least in principle, whether or not this object has the given property. We can then consider the collection of all objects having this property as a new mathematical object, which is called a set. The objects are called elements of the given set.
