Chapter Chapter 2 in Stochastic Approaches for Systems Biology, 2011, pp 23-52 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter is a basic introduction to chemical reactions and chemical species. Different ways of quantifying the abundance of molecules lead to the notions of concentration. Similarly, a deterministic quantification of how fast a reaction proceeds in time leads to notions such as reaction rate and rate constant. Representation of biochemical reaction schemes is reviewed. Deterministic description of reaction networks in terms of reaction rates is described.
