Chapter Chapter 9 in Statistical Research Methods, 2013, pp 167-180 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract We have previously discussed the concepts of Type I and Type II errors, but we have not much considered their relevance to study design and statistical analysis. In practice, controlling either the type II error rate or the power – holding all other components fixed – will determine the sample size needed to find a significant result.
