Abstract:
Abstract Many “alternative” theories of gravitation have been proposed. Among them, however, the Brans-Dicke theory [1] is certainly one of the best known. This is because of its theoretical simplicity and also because it has been subject to the experimental tests since Dicke himself made an effort by measuring the solar oblateness. Recently the theory seems to be revisited because it offers a sensible approximate model to study the consequences of unification, an ambitious program to unify particle physics and gravitation. In fact in many of the theoretical models of unification scalar fields participate as important ingredients, in addition to other many fields most of which will remain undetected.
