Dr. Einstein’s Light Arrows (1905)
Alan A. Grometstein
Chapter Chapter 7 in The Roots of Things, 1999, pp 197-207 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The year was 1905. Three years had passed since Lenard’s report on the details of the PE, with its paradoxical relations between the frequency and intensity of the light source, on the one hand, and the energy and number of photoelectrons, on the other. No one had offered an explanation of the paradox. Five years had passed since Planck derived his radiation law, based on the assumption that energy exchanges in the walls of a blackbody cavity are quantized. No one knew what to make of that; Planck himself was looking for an alternative explanation.
