Abstract:
Abstract While PDE/PROTRAN is competitive in speed and accuracy with other software for the solution of elliptic and parabolic problems, it is certainly not ideally designed to handle hyperbolic problems. Nevertheless, because of its ease of use and flexibility, it is expected that it will be occasionally used for hyperbolic problems. The results of this chapter will show, in fact, that for both first and second order hyperbolic problems, PDE/PROTRAN is a useful tool provided the solutions being approximated are smooth, and is probably as robust as other general purpose PDE packages for these problems.
