Construction of Life Tables

Chapter Chapter 3 in Life Insurance Theory, 1997, pp 19-24 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Life tables can be constructed for any large population group. We consider such a group of individuals with ages x≥ α, where α≥ 0 is a fixed initial age. Let the unknown life table of the group be l x (x≥ α). Then $$k{P_\alpha } = {l_{\alpha + k}}/{l_\alpha }$$ and 1 $${l_{\alpha + k}} = {l_\alpha }{p_\alpha }{p_{\alpha + 1}}{p_{\alpha + 2}} \ldots {p_{\alpha + k - 1}}$$ where $${p_x}{ \equiv _1}{p_x} = {l_{x + 1}}/{l_x}(x = \alpha ,\alpha + 1, \ldots ,\alpha + k - 1)$$
