Abstract: Abstract The purpose of this chapter is to demonstrate the application of S-Plus in the analysis of health economic data. We have divided the chapter into two major sections. The first section is intended to provide the reader with a background on the field of pharmacoeconomic evaluation. In this section, we review the significance and relevancy of this type of analysis for health policy decisions as well as discuss the features which make this type of analysis unique with respect to other types of evaluation problems. In the remainder of the chapter, we demonstrate, via a case study, how we used S-Plus in a pharmacoeconomic analysis. This analysis is based on a clinical study comparing the safety and efficacy of two drugs in patients with heart failure.
