Abstract This chapter deals with the first stage of the four-stage paradigm outlined in Chapter 1. In this chapter we learn how to collect data and code it into numerical form. The discussion will include a consideration of: variables, cases and values coding strategies preparation of the questionnaire and codebook coding the dataset
